Over the last year, since launching the From Education to Finance (E2F) podcast series, we have had the opportunity to speak with economists, marketers, sustainability specialists, academics, central bankers, entrepreneurs and business leaders about their careers and the future of the financial services industry.
One theme emerged again and again: many talented young people simply don't know enough about the industry to consider it as a career option that they feel is possible for them.
Financial services is one of the UK's most important sectors, yet many students struggle to understand how it works, what careers are available, and how people actually get into it. Too often, opportunities and options may be overlooked simply because nobody has taken the time to explain further.
That is why I created 'Is Your Future in Financial Services?', a free guide designed to help students, graduates and early-career professionals better understand the industry and the many pathways into it.
Drawing on insights from the podcasts, the guide explores:
What financial services is and why it matters.
The major sectors that make up the industry.
The different careers available and the routes into them.
The skills that employers value most.
How the industry is evolving through AI, sustainability and digital innovation.
Ultimately, the guide exists to help make financial services feel a little less mysterious and a little more accessible.
It also forms part of the wider Future FS Leaders initiative, which aims to strengthen the connection between education and the financial services industry through interviews, resources, events and industry engagement.
If you're a student, educator, careers adviser, parent or industry professional, I hope you find it useful.
You can download your free copy of the Guide here, and I look forward to sharing further updates as the Future FS Leaders initiative continues to grow.
